Job Description

This position is responsible for developing and implementing Village Theatre’s endowment campaign and is directly involved in the identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of prospective planned giving and endowment donors as well as select major donors. The position will oversee and conduct fundraising activities in order to secure support through wills, bequests, trusts, charitable gift annuities, and other planned/deferred gift arrangements. They will manage a personal portfolio of individuals and will be called upon to engage and collaborate with Village Theatre’s board, executive committee, leadership staff, and other volunteers as opportunities arise. The individual must be able to effectively communicate the mission, values and scope of Village Theatre’s programs. 

Duties & Responsibilities include:

• Works with Director of Development and Executive Producer to create and execute strategies and perform planned gift activities.
• Identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward individual prospects capable of planned gifts at all levels with an emphasis on gifts of $10,000 and above.
• Have 100+ prospective and current donor solicitation visits per year.
• Lead donor cultivation initiatives applying best practices and utilizing Endowment Committee, Board of Directors, Executive Producer, Director of Development, and all Development staff, and other Village Theatre colleagues as needed.
• Demonstrate an understanding of advanced gift planning vehicles and communicate opportunities for asset-based planning as documented by proposals submitted, secured planned gifts, and involvement of senior leadership on complex gift opportunities.
• Prepare calculations and illustrations, draft proposal letters and letters of explanation for donors and obtain needed internal and external advice and assistance on behalf of Village Theatre
• Work with the development team to develop and implement all marketing strategies and plans for Endowment and Planned Giving. 
• Work with Endowment Committee Chair to plan committee meetings.
• Prepare monthly reports for leadership and Board of Directors.
• Attend and participate in other Board meetings as required.
• Serve as principal liaison to any current and future endowment and planned giving committees, consultants, or contractors, institutional investment professionals, including Village Theatre Finance Committee, Investment Committee, and Board of Directors.
• Build relationships with Allied Professionals. Function as an ambassador to the wealth and estate planning and non-profit legal community, as well as the community at large during education and community engagement programs and external and planned giving seminars.
• Work with Director of Finance to manage the probate process where Village Theatre is a named beneficiary.
• Preserve all endowment and planned gift data in patron and donor database and produce relevant and effective reports.
• Organize, in conjunction with the development team, annual endowment and planned giving events.
• Work other development department events, including fundraising events and backstage parties to cultivate prospect and steward donor relationships. 
• Act as the organizations expert on planned giving trends and tax law as it pertains to endowment, planned giving, and fundraising.
• Where appropriate provide expertise on non-profit corporate law as it relates to planned giving, or development activities.
• Seek professional growth and contribute to the professional growth of others in regards to endowment, planned giving, and major gifts.
• Regularly participate in professional development programs, particularly focused on life income arrangements, complex assets, charitable tax law and IRS regulations to strengthen and expand knowledge base and the knowledge base of the entire development department.
• Share best practices, train, and mentor others on senior staff and in the development department by overseeing and developing ongoing planned giving training.
